The Profile Of Vocational High School of Telecomunication Sandhy Putra Banjarbaru

The Vocational High School Of Telecomunication Sandhy Putra Banjarbaru is the only one of Vocational High School Of Telecomunication in South Kalimantan by its legalization done by Chief Executive Officer of PT. Telekomunikasi Indonesia, tbk A.A Nasution on March 13th, 2000, with the Letter of Enactment of Establishment License Number : Kep. 52/ 115.a3/MN/99, with School Statistic Number : 4215110006. Based on the license, it is undeniably followed by the launching of Telecomunication Skill Program on Subscriber Access Network Techniques known as Access Network Techniques.

The efforts developed considered inadequate for the field of Skilled-program only, therefore by having the license given by South Kalimantan Educational District Office Number : Kep. 09/ MBN/ Disdik/ 2003 we will release the program of Informatics Skilled in our School by the year of 2003/2004.

1. Some Facilities available :
The Vocational High School of Telecomunication of Banjarbaru situated i the ex-office of Telecom Regional Office IX of South Kalimantan at Pangeran Suriansyah Street 3 Banjarbaru, built on the area 4906.12 m2 and it has two floors of main building.
There are some facilities :
a. Computer Laboratory of 31 unit of computers for the purpose of learning activity and also it has 3 freely computer to be used for the aim of deepen informatics.
b. Chemical and Physics Laboratory on the area of 90 m2 aimed to help student to obtain knowledge related to the subjects.
c. Access network Laboratory, on the area of 90m2 aimed to deepen student knowledge about that subject.
d. Digital and Electronics Laboratory, on the area of 54 m2, focused on learning activities about Productive Program.
e. Internet Kiosk using 8 units computer local area network situated in the ex-house of Principal Official House to facilitate the e-learning process.
f. SMK Telkom Library located in the main building with the area of 90m2, serve 900 compulsory books, 167 supporting books, 30 fictions, 72 magazines, and 20 reference books and some bulletins, newspaper that have a benefit for students.

2. The Condition of Teachers and Staff
We have 31 Teachers and Staff in details as follows :
a. Based on level of education : S1 degree 24 persons, D3 degree 7 persons, staff status covering 6 fixed foundation teacher, 25 contracted teacher (recruited from Senior High School around Banjarbaru, Martapura, and PT. Telkom).
b. Telecommunication Assistant consists of 4 persons in charge of laboratory activity of computer, electronics, physics/chemists, and network access.
c. School staff. It consists of 17 persons, based on its education degree; 4 person from junior high, 7 person from Senior High, 3 persons from D3 degree, and 3 persons from S1 degree.

In developing the ability and the skill of productive program teachers, we estbalish join venture cooperation between our school and Training Divisions of PT. Telkom. We have been through five times training (10 teachers), on job training in Telkomsel Company for productive program teacher (1 person).

3. The Situation of Student in SMK Telkom
the amounts of student of SMK Telkom Sandhy Putra Banjarbaru based on its registration activity in 2002/2003 are 312 students (166 male students, 146 female students) 105 students of first level (62 M, 43 F), 103 students of second level (53 M, 50 F)and 104 students of third level (51 M, 53 FM).

In 2002/2003 the student of SMKTEL received a scholarship from The Foundation of Sandhy Putra Telkom as many as 27 successful students, 13 scholarship for those in financial weakness, Local Goverment Scholarship of 2 students in Banjarbaru.

the achievement won in academic setting in 2001/2002 reaching the highest rank of National Examination Point in South Kalimantan and the first, the second and third best students in South Kalimantan.
Moreover, in 2002/2003, there are some achievements collected by our students. Among others are :
a. The 1st winner of English Debate Competition and Informatics of LKS South Kalimantan Level and the 4th winner of Informatics Competition in National Level held in Bandung.
b. The 2nd winner of Math Quiz Contest facilitated by Banjarmasin Lambung Mangkurat University.
c. The 1st and the 3rd winner of English Debate Competition hold by Educational District Office in Banjarbaru.
d. Some were achievements such as "gerak jalan", "nanang galuh", best student, etc.

4. Learning Process
General speaking we do follow the 1999 curriculum based on Vocational High School Curriculum viewing at quality management control covers:
a. 40 compulsory hours learning process/week in order to augmenting student ability in computer and English Language Acquisition + 10 hours as an addition.
b. Administration and academic report in evaluating the escalation of student advancement quality twicw a year.
c. As the allocation of time given for learning process, time learning activities balance is 60 to 40 percent as the comparison of Productive Program and Theories in Class.

In 2002/2003 in the fifth semester, the students of Vocational High School - Sandhy Putra Telkom Banjarbaru perform Double Quality System in the field of industry and working. it posses 4 months in different location such as 10 persons in Regional Telecom Offices in Balikpapan, 15 persons located in Banjarmasin District Office, 18 persons in East Surabaya District Office, 24 persons in West District Office, 23 persons in Malang District Office, 12 persons in Sub District Office and 1 person each located in Palangkaraya District and Tanjung District.

In addition, we have given some supporting program covering Broad Based Education Life Skill sponsored by for Educational District Office to augment the skill of our students. The activities cover :
>> Computer Technician and Entrepreneurships Training for the alumni of our school who considered unemployment student followed by 25 students for the first generations and 25 students from the first and second grade to accommodate their computer skill to be self-started.
>> Leadership Training and Group working activities join venture with BLK (Balai Latihan Kerja) of South Kalimantan followed by 40 students with the aim to form students tough character, a highly discipline, team work and a good marality.
>> Preaching activities has developed spiritual Guidance Activity for student through Islamic Study Groups.

We Consider that all the information given above can ditribute enlightening experience for the purpose of curiosity and it is hopeful that it will be benefical for both The Big Family of Vocational High School of Telecomunication-Sandhy Putra Banjarbaru and World Indusries or Entrepreneurs who care with education as well.
